    Summer has hit Cape Town

    Summer is here!!
    It has been a while since I have written, we've just come out of a crazy busy winter season and boy does it feel good to be soaking up some sun!
    I must say, I completely enjoyed the hype we experienced during World Cup 2010- completely took my eye off the ball, the GEES had us all caught up in it!! ...No regrets:)

    And just lie that, 5 months later- we are now prepping for Summer- YAY!
    In a full circle- from Soccer World Cup to SA fashion Week- where has the time "in-between" gone? 
    I could get caught up in the detail but lets just say: its been about planning and executing, one project finishes and the next one starts...here we are planning the last few months of the year! The best months for most- SUMMER- cheerfulness, boldness, happiness, confidence and best of all- out with the old and in with the new...
    It's time to shop!

While the world is watching the beautiful game next month, Sunglass Hut is raising funds for  South Africans who cannot afford eye care. The Sunglass Hut Totally Wired initiative aims to help local men, women and children see clearly for the first time.
    “The need for eye care in South Africa is great,” comments Mike Elliot, Sunglass Hut South Africa’s General Manager. “We are excited and proud to be part of an initiative that provides free eye care and eyewear to impoverished communities. At Sunglass Hut, we understand fashion – and what can be cooler than giving the gift of sight to those in need?”

    Sunglass Hut has commissioned the social development project Streetwires to produce 1 000 beaded wayfarer sunglasses in the colours of selected teams’ flags. These uniquely numbered, individually crafted 2010 mementos are a fun, fashionable way to celebrate the World Cup and make a difference in the life of a fellow-South African. For each pair sold, R70 will be donated to OneSight, the charity fondation dedicated to supplying basic eye care to thousands in need.
    Take a walk on the wired side
    The uniquely South African sunglasses will be on sale in Sunglass Hut stores around the country from early June. For R150, you get a limited edition collector’s item and unlimited pleasure from giving someone else their vision back. Branded TOTALLY WIRED, each work of art will be uniquely numbered and signed by the artist.
    Money for glam
    Sunglass Hut will launch its Totally Wired campaign on 9 June with a sparkling fundraiser event at the Misael Art Gallery. Hosting the event, Nick Rabinowitz will introduce the auction of extraordinary wire work sunglass masterpieces from the Streetwires/Indalo Project design collaboration. Each over-the-top bespoke creation will be sold to the highest bidder, with all money going to The OneSight Foundation.

    Being able to see clearly is something we often take for granted – but for many, a pair of glasses costs more than couple of month’s salary. Poor vision impairs a child’s ability to learn in school and play with friends. For adults, it negatively affects their quality of life and ability to work. OneSight, the global Sunglass Hut CSI initiative, is a charity dedicated to providing eye exams and glasses to those in need. Every year, clinics are held in poor communities around the world to give many thousands of people their sight back.

    Post reports of the Glamour Sunglass Hut Oscars Party

    MUCH excitement in the air just before the GLAMOUR OSCARS PARTY- some guests stayed up till 3am just to watch the ceremony.

    Even though no South African-connected film won anything this year, we celebrated on home soil, donning our designer gear and sunnies for the red carpet affair at The Table Bay. Hair guru Tony Martin and his attractive associate Cader were on hand
    in the afternoon, using sponsor V05’s products and guests sat on perspex chairs (sourced by the Cape decor company for the party). Later on, we all assembled on the red carpet where


    Isabella de Villiers was interviewing for Glitterati. Isabella, who was once mistaken for my daughter (if I had a daughter, she is exactly the one I would like!), told me that she has joined the Jupiter Drawing Room as a producer. Former model Sam Pegg told me of the time she went to the Oscars when she was 17, and Leonardo di Caprio (19) spent the whole time talking to her mother! Cougars rule! 
     
    Lady Kitty Spencer arrived in a beautiful cleavaceous leopardprint dress from Errol Arrenz which combined fresh beauty with sophistication (Errol is having a private viewing of his Winter 2010 and dUSUD collections at the Charlotte Rhys store this Tuesday and Wednesday from 7am). I was dressed by Francois Rail of Carducci Woman and am eternally grateful to The Table Bay for going to the House of Monatic's studio in Salt River to pick it up for me.
    Nicky van der Walt needed his Sunglass Hut sunglasses (another sponsor) as he had spent the last four days celebrating his 30th birthday, culminating  with a party at Caprice. We sat with Andrew Barns, his wife Rachel and brother Gary and his pretty date, and  wild cheers went up from us Noisy Oysters when the Mischa wines were mentioned by MC Jeannie D
    She struggled to get our attention as we were diverted by the big-screen action behind her.

    South Africa's impressive horse racing event took place at the Kenilworth Race Course on Saturday 30th January.

    Before kicking right back into the updates, i am sure most of you are feeling like 2010 is your year to make a difference!! It is amazing, does it not humour you that 2009 is quoted as the "worst year" for most individuals?
    The great thing however is that the minute 2010 kicked off- our peers, colleagues, friends, family were so amped, its amazing the amount of positivity looming out there!!

    I am so loving every minute of it, loving that we have all started this year moving in the right direction! There is one thing left to say...Life is great!
