Super blogger Bryan Boy dazzles in South Africa

Bryan Boy, famous for chronicling his sartorial adventures through a visual diary of fashion happenings from across the world, recently visited South Africa to talk fashion, eyewear and blogging. The eclectic blogger visited Johannesburg and Cape Town courtesy of a partnership between premium fashion sunglass retailer, Sunglass Hut SA and Marie Claire magazine.

Bryan Boy, pen name of Bryan Grey Yambao, presented the Best Fashion Blogger Award at this year’s Marie Claire Prix d’Excellence de la Mode awards in addition to conducting blogger workshops and Sunglass Hut store visits during his five day tour.
Internationally, associations with bloggers have become commonplace with retailers. Brands have recognised the importance of engaging with the ‘new elite’. Locally Sunglass Hut, heralds this movement with blogger relations and partnerships already forming a vital part of the marketing strategy. Brand and product awareness garnered an additional boost during the Bryan Boy tour, with bloggers, media, fashionistas and customers all joining the conversation via social networks and blogs.
"Bryan’s visit to our stores and blogger workshops has proven to be a successful brand awareness campaign due to his knowledge of fashion and love for sunglasses.” said Amanda Rich, marketing manager of Sunglass Hut SA. Rich adds, “We have long supported the blogging community and believe that it is a mainstream vehicle of communication.”

Bryan Boy is one of the biggest names amongst an influential crop of fashion bloggers - with their own commercial contracts, front-row seats at fashion shows and multi -page spreads in magazines.

During his time in SA Bryan Boy shared his top tips for blogging success:
   1. Decide what you want to blog about, uncover your reasons and stick to it!
   2. Be positive rather than negative.
   3. Bloggers are the new media elite, but will never replace the glossies.
   4. Be real and transparent with your readers. Don’t just copy and paste the work from
international sources, PR people and journalists.
   5. Only accept sponsorship from brands you actually believe in.

Sunglass Hut SA and Marie Claire brings Bryan Boy to SA

@marieclaire_SA and @SunglassHutSA, the leading retailer of international designer sunglasses brands in South Africa, have joined forces to bring world-renowned fashion blogger @bryanboy to South Africa.
Recognised for his witty fashion comments and insight into what’s hot and what’s not, Bryan Boy will hand over the Best Fashion Blogger Award at this year’s Marie Claire Prix d’Excellence de la Mode awards in Johannesburg, as well as conduct blogging workshops and store visits with Sunglass Hut.

“We are very excited to have Sunglass Hut involved in bringing Bryan Boy to South Africa,” says Aspasia Karras, editor of Marie Claire. “There is no bigger name in the fashion blogging world than Bryan Boy so we’re delighted that he’ll be handing over our Best Fashion Blogger award at our annual fashion awards, and that he’ll be part of two blogging workshops in Cape Town and Johannesburg.”

"Bryan Boy is the epitome of fashion bloggers worldwide,” says Amanda Rich, marketing manager of Sunglass Hut SA. “Since we support the local blogger community and recognise its impact on fashion, it was only natural that Sunglass Hut SA should bring Bryan Boy to SA. Bloggers are an instrumental and integral part of our communications mix and since 2009 we have been supporting the growing community.

"As a brand that sits on the edge of innovation, we have long since acknowledged the power of bloggers. A force to be reckoned with, they no longer represent commentary from a fringe community,” concludes Rich.

Bryan Boy will conduct two informal fashion blogging workshops, one in Johannesburg (30 August) and another in Cape Town (2 September) where he will share his tips on fashion blogging and take questions from the attendees. For more information on the store visits, go to Sunglass Hut SA on Facebook and follow @SunglassHutSA on Twitter.
